Syabas Malaysia!!!!

What a night yesterday was. Not sure if I can call it a night. It started from evening till the wee hours of the morning.

After casting my vote in Bangsar for you know who, I headed home, feeling quiet confident that my candidate would win. This could be partly due to the chit chat I had with a few people while waiting in the long que where no one was secretive about their choice for Lembah Pantai MP.

I was at a birthday party at a restaurant in Jalan Dungun, Damansara Heights when mobile phones started ringing and beeping. It was about 8.45pm when word went around that DAP had taken Penang and that Chief Minister Koh had been defeated. Of course I was sceptical. This is after all Malaysia. A one party country. BN has never played fair and they still did not with the ink issue. Then more word came about the man whose face I would have loved to have seen and laughed at when he found out he lost his Sg Siput seat. One seat that most of the 100 odd guests at the party were keen to know the outcome was of course Lembah Pantai. Then someone read out a message he received from a friend that sweet Nurul Izza had won. I said that it must be a joke as I could not see Sharizat lose because there were a lot of BN supporters in Lembah Pantai.

I then started calling and messaging a couple of friends who I knew would be following developments as closely as possible and whom I share extremely fond memories of our time in Liverpool some 16 years ago. Bala, Kamal and I were adamant that this corrupted party should not get 2/3 majority. I was kept updated for the rest of the night. Come 10.45pm, I told my lovely wife that I wanted to get home. She of course turned to the other people on the table and complained about my obsession for Liverpool FC. It was then that I realised that the game was going to be on live at 11pm. With all the excitement of the election results, I had completely forgotten about my beloved team.

As we now live some 25km away in Bukit Jelutong, I naturally drove home like a demon. Warnings from my wife to slow down fell on deaf ears as I wanted to get home to check the results, to watch Liverpool, to celebrate the scums getting knocked out of the FA Cup (thanks Bala for the news) and the fact that all cops were busy with the elections.

At home, I jumped in front of the tv and put on channel 123 on Astro. I started catching up with the results. I kept clicking between starsports and astro awani. Each time I came back to the elections results, I would catch the phrase ..."mengalahkan calon BN dengan undian...." Five beautiful words. Despite that I still managed to catch all 3 goals in Liverpool's 3rd successive league victory without conceding a single goal.

After a rather busy day and a few whiskeys too many from the party, I dozed off on the couch in my tv room only to be awakened my male dog licking my face. I noticed it was 2.45am and as I was about to hit the off button on the remote when again I heard those 5 sweet words. It put a smile on my face as I switched off the tv.

I cannot believe it!!! Is this really happening? I checked every media website from bernama to cnn and aljazeera. This really happened. After 50 years of independence, we have finally achieved a true democratic state. For the first time in my 37 years of existence, did I truly feel proud being a Malaysian. I had lost so much hope and the number of times our constitution had been amended, it might as well had been written in pencil.

For the first time in a long long time, do I feel proud of all my fellow Malaysians. All of you who took it upon yourselves to make a difference. We have created history. We have taken our country back. Infact, today is our independence!!!! To me the scene of Tunku Abdul Rahman shouting "Merdeka! Merdeka! Merdeka!" finally has meaning and significance.

As I write this, my eyes are welling up and my throat is choked when I think that the rakyat has spoken after 39 years of silence.

Syabas my fellow Malaysians!!!!!!!! Thank you for making a stand for change.

God Bless You All!!!

It is Time!!!!!!

Just like my good friend andfield devotee, this is my last post before D-Day.

In the NST front page today, Badawi advises the Indians and Chinese to be cautious about who they vote and that he "does not want to form a one race government".

BN racists are using this to imply that if BN's margin is reduced at this election it is because of the Chinese and Indians. Creating more division among the races.

People there are as many Malay brothers and sisters if not more who are upset with BN. Do not be fooled and do not be afraid.

We know the BN is using May 13 to scare us. But that will not happen as the whole world is watching. There was no internet in 1969. It was easy to cover up things then. Now it is more difficult. The whole world is watching very closely.

BN are not just trying to win the elections. They are trying to dominate the whole decision making process. I have said this time and time again that we are to vote not for a change of government but for a stronger check and balance. With that we can ensure that everyone regardless of ethnic and financial background is protected. A dominant party has only one agenda.

Be clear it is not an issue about supporting BN or supporting PAS or DAP or PKR. It is about having a just government.

If PAS or PKR or DAP had 199 seats in Parliament, I will be voting for BN tomorrow.

Be clear and vote well!!!! God Bless us all tomorrow!!!!!!!

What does it mean to vote for the opposition.

Lets be realistic. BN is not exactly 100% bad. I don't think even the most hardcore opposition will disagree. But no matter how good a party is, if they are given a free hand in running this country they will start doing things as they please and take the rakyat for granted. BN has and is showing clear sign of this.

Another realistic point to make is that BN will not be toppled. I personally do not see the opposition forming a government. They are too individualistic about their plans. PAS at one time said that if they ever came into power they would turn the F1 circuit into a camel race track. Anwar Ibrahim was known for his extremist views at one time and did have his fair share of cronies as well. DAP has only opposed almost everything the government has proposed.

In reality the opposition do not look like a better option for running this country. Most of you will by now be thinking that I have changed my tune. Was I brainwashed. No, despite attempts by a group of business associates of mine who had a small dinner party last nite that turned into a political debate. I was shocked to hear the views of some non-bumiputeras voicing their support for not only the BN govenment but also the destruction of temples. A hindu of 60 years of age, well educated, Director of a few financially strong companies, this gentleman stood up and asked; "why do we need so many temples? We already have large temples like the ones in Brickfields, PJ old town, Bangsar, Puchong, Selayang etc. People can come to these temples and pray. Why have all these small small illegal ones?" I, despite being a non-hindu, was shocked. I asked him one question. How do you expect these devotees to travel all the way to within the city limits when they are so poor that they cannot even afford a bus ticket? A community of more than 80% hindus should have its own place of worship. Likewise with any other religion. These places of worship are not large monstrosities? Many little churches set up by rural folks in Sarawak and some parts of Pahang, Kelantan, Terengganu and Johor have also been demolished. The government also put a ban on Christian books and Bibles that were written in Bahasa Malaysia which used "Allah" to describe God. I shall not dwell in this debate of the word.

My point is that there are many who for some reason or another do not have an issue about the insensitivity of the BN government. Who knows maybe PAS is worse. After all they did send funds and even recruits to help the Taliban to fight in the US led war in Afghanistan.

But people, it is not about trying to topple the government. It is about having a proper check and balance. Be clear why there is a need for this change. Understand what it means for us and our future generation to have a just government. Lets break it down, if 4 or 5 out of 6 people vote BN (which happened in the last elections) our fate will be in the hands of a small group of people who have their own personal agenda. Now if only 3 out of 6 people vote BN, the government will be BN led but there will be a stronger opposition voice and BN government will not be able to do whatever they like whenever they like and to whoever they like.

So please think. Every single vote counts!!! We can make a difference. Malaysia can be great if we have a just government.

A wise man once said, "Society is judged by how it treats its less fortunate amongst them" .

Happy Voting and may God smile on Malaysia on the 8th of March.

Deny BN 2/3 Majority

I am quoting an entire post from my facebook by Pang Khee Teik. It is well written and very accurate. This will help you to understand what it means and why it is important to vote for the opposition. People understand something here. If you are afraid of what might happen if the opposition came into power, especially with the fact that DAP, PKR and PAS do not see eye to eye on many things, you do not need to worry as the opposition will unlikely win by 51%.

Barisan Nasional (National Front) will get majority, but what they should not get is 2/3rd's majority. They must be denied absolute power or we as Malaysians have dug our own graves.

Please read the following. Appreciate all your comments and feedbacks:-

Many Malaysians misunderstand the reasons why BN wants the 2/3rd majority.

This is what I have gathered from talking to people and from the facebook group Deny Barisan Nasional a 2/3 Majority in the upcoming election!. I apologise for any factual errors and ignorance in this post. So do correct me if I am wrong. Anyway, here goes...For the past few elections, we keep hearing 2/3rd majority this 2/3 majority that. Early in this elections, Pak Lah says he "hopes" BN wins the 2/3rd majority. BN has successfully got the people to think that this is the majority required to win the elections. In fact, BN only needs a 51 percent majority to win the election and form government. And it forms government with the opposition parties such that government also consists of opposition.
So what is 2/3rd majority for?Once BN becomes the lords of the jungle, it gets to do funky things like make new laws, supposedly passed in the interest of serving the people (though I wonder why it took so long for women's groups to campaign for a rape law - it is as simple as passing a law against sexual acts without consent... could it be that the men in power are afraid their wives and mistresses will suddenly sue them?). There are laws about laws lah. You cannot simply go and pull any old law out of your ass. In proposing new laws, the parliament requires a clear 51 percent majority from those in the parliament, then it can pass the law. But with that 2/3 majority, what is 51 percent? BN doesn't even break a sweat with any law it wants to pull out of its ass. A 2/3rd majority however is required in the AMENDMENT OF THE CONSTITUTION, and also some kinds of laws. The constitution is a piece of document with 181 articles that lay down the foundation of this country when it was first formed. Naturally, as time passes, some parts of the document becomes irrelevant or needs to be updated. But changing the constitution is a damn serious thing, so the law requires that the government needs a 2/3rd majority of approvals in the house before a change can be made to any part of the constitution. Here's some perspective. Singapore has amended their constitutions 4 times and USA in all their 5 centuries of existence have amended their constitution 27 times.Since 1957, BN has amended the Malaysian Constitution a total of 690 times. I will write it again s you won't think it is a typo. It is 690 times. You should now ask, where is the original constitution? Where has the nation gone? If it were not my country, I would be laughing.

But I'm so not laughing no more.

Some famous amendments include the stripping of the royalty's power and the creation of the syariah court to deal with certain Islamic legalities. Recently, they amended to extend the term of the electoral commission chairperson. Makes you wonder, right? In a recent interview with the press, when asked about the charges of phantom voters, instead of saying, "Yes, we are investigating it," this chair said "There are no phantom voters!" and also that he has not seen any zombie coming out to vote... Which leads to my questions: Why is he so defensive? Who is he defending? Isn't he supposed to be neutral? Could it be that the people he is defending are the same people who extended his term... so that he could extend theirs?I believe the University and College Act that prevents university students from taking part in politics and those various acts that control content on media and press part of amendments to our constitutional freedom of speech. Yes, we still have freedom of speech except where we are not free to speak. These amendments have resulted in a constitution that is messy and contradictory and inconsistent. Hence the country is also messy and contradictory and inconsistent.

Absolute power corrupts absolutely...

So BN wants the 2/3rd majority not to serve the people but to serve itself. It wants the 2/3rd majority to have UNCHALLENGED POWER to keep amending the constitution to favour them, so that with every passing elections, they make it harder for anyone to challenge them. This allows them to make themselves more powerful, richer and fatter (have you seen so many fat politicians in one party ever??)The only time BN has lost the 2/3rd majority is in 1969. You know what happened then. As a result of the violence that was allowed to happen, BN has been able to use the incident to frighten people to always give them unchallenged power - basically the power to keep giving themselves more power and the power to screw the rakyat over and over again.Don't let BN tell you the constitutional amendments are for national security. Do you sleep better at night knowing you cannot speak up your hopes about this land of your mother and father? Preventing freedom of speech is for nobody's security but Barisan Nasional's own skin. For it to equate BN's security to national security and say that a criticism of BN is a threat to national security is an implied threat. Yes, by claiming that if you poke them, they can superpoke you back, BN is threatening the country. So we become afraid and turn our backs from politics. And when you turn your back to politics, you are giving your ass to Samy Vellu. And Najib. And Hisham. And Rafidah - that woman can screw too!
Don't give your ass to BN.Look out for your fellow Malaysians' asses. Share this info please. Tell them to protect themselves from getting screwed, at least not without their consent lah!

Time for a Change!!!

It has been ages sice my last post. However I think it is timely that I give my 2 sens worth.

People, it is time for a change. I am glad to see that our generation is taking an active roll in the run up to the elections. This short video was sent to me by a friend. I hope it helps all of you who are unsure which way to vote to vote for a change.
